世界中の記録を集めたギネスブックは2008年1月22日、南米の太平洋側・南北に細長く連なる国として有名なチリの北部にあるリゾート野外プール【San Alfonso del Mar】を世界一大きなプール(海水プール)として認定した。全長は約1キロ(1013メートル)、面積は約8万平方メートル。250万リットルもの水を有する規模で、通常の幅8メートルプールなら6000個分に相当するという。深い部分は水深35メートルにもなる。
